Basic Business Center (Grand Prairie)

Course Description: This course serves as an orientation and basic training on Business Center- Heavy Construction Edition, which provides one interface for modeling and data management. This course is classroom-based.

Course Objectives:

  • Setup user interface
  • Import different data types
  • View basic surface modeling features
  • View data
  • Calculate earthwork volumes
  • Create, edit, and manage Siteworks and Earthworks sites, designs, and work orders

Length: 16 hours (2 days)

Course Format: 70% ILT, 30% Lab, 0% Web

Advanced Business Center (Grand Prairie)

Course Description:  This course serves as advanced training on Business Center- Heavy Construction Edition, which provides one interface for modeling and data management. This course is classroom-based.

  • Create Roadway Corridors

Basic Construction Surveying (Grand Prairie) By Request Only

Course Description:  This class is designed for students who have little or no knowledge of the technology used in modern site and highway construction and the desire to become a construction technology professional. The students will be taught how to use various pieces of construction surveying equipment and what the proper techniques and procedures are to insure that they are using the equipment properly. Students will also learn the industry terminology and the proper use and care of an automatic level and total station. Proper documentation procedures along with equipment calibration and maintenance will also be taught.

Course Objectives:

  • Setup and use survey grade levels
  • Perform an elevation “loop” closure
  • Demonstrate the proper care and use of the survey level
  • Prepare field notes as required for an elevation loop and closure
  • Setup and use a Total Station for construction layout

Siteworks Basic Training (Grand Prairie)

Course Description: This course provides instruction in the operation of Siteworks software using GPS and Total Stations with a windows based mobile computer such as a Trimble TSC7 and is intended for construction contractor field employees involved in grading, stakeout, topographic and volume surveys. This class includes an introduction of the Trimble Business Center software along with how to transfer and create machine and data collector files. This is an abbreviated version of the week long class designed to get a Contractor up and running quickly.

Target Audience: The target audience for this program are site supervisors responsible for managing onsite data to and from the machines and field crews that are new to the Siteworks Software and Trimble Business Center.

Course Objectives:

  • Measure site features and surfaces using line coding features
  • Create and Transfer machine files
  • Stake out points, lines, roads, and surfaces

Some of the information included in this class will be:

  • Understand GPS (RTK) fundamentals
  • Review the components of the system
  • Setup a GPS base station
  • Setup a GPS rover
  • Setup a Total Station (if needed)
  • Understand file and folder structures
  • Create sites and work orders
  • Perform a site calibration

Prerequisite(s): Experience with general site construction and grade checking is recommended.

Trimble Earthworks Installation Training:
Dozer and Motorgrader (San Antonio)

Course Description: This course covers the Earthworks GPS Grade Control System for track type tractors and motor graders. The attendees will perform machine control component installation on three different machines, (dozer, grader and excavator).

  • Layout of components
  • Choice of installation locations
  • Installation of Hydraulics
  • Installation of Wiring
  • Installation of Components
  • Setup and Measure up
  • Calibration and Test
  • Troubleshooting selected components

Length: 36 hours (4.5 days)

Excavators (San Antonio)

Course Description: This course covers the Earthworks GPS Grade Control System for track type tractors and motor graders. The attendees will perform machine control component installation, calibration and measure-up of an Excavator.

Machine Control Troubleshooting (San Antonio)

Course Description: This course covers the calibration, configuration and operation of the Trimble GPS Grade Control Systems for track type tractors and motor graders. Earthworks and GCS900.

Course Objectives:

  • Explain machine basics, the function of each component, the operation of the display, the installation menu functions, and the system operation of the hydraulic control system for each machine
  • Locate and identify site and machine control component (machine walk around)
  • Perform sensor calibrations, valve calibrations and alternative machine measure up methods, and all diagnostic menu functions
  • Troubleshoot selected components.

Length: 36 hours (4.5 days)
